The BLAST Premier World Final has come to a close with G2 Esports taking the trophy in decisive 3-0 fashion over Team Spirit. Both looked strong in the semifinals but G2 just had it on the day. This match was not close in the slightest, giving credence to the huge gap standing between CS2’s top three teams and the rest going into the Perfect World Shanghai Major next month.

G2 Esports Stomps Spirit Flat to Win BLAST Premier World Final

Making a Statement Early

Map one was G2’s pick of Mirage. This pick was interesting, as Spirit hasn’t been bad on the map at all. Things looked like they could be competitive early on after an insane Desert Eagle 4K out of Danil “donk” Kryshkovets brought the game to even.

The first half ended 7-5 in favor of Spirit, setting the stage for a tight second half. However, Spirit’s momentum stopped dead in its tracks on the T side. G2 systematically dismantled every play that Spirit tried. Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov and Nikola “NiKo” Kovač were reading the game perfectly, racking up 11 kills apiece in eight rounds. Spirit failed to get a single T round as G2 stormed their way to a 13-7 victory.

Still, that was G2’s map pick. Spirit could chalk it up to a great CT gameplan from G2 and move on to Anubis. Anubis has been a fantastic pick for Spirit over the tournament. They beat both Vitality and FaZe on it, and narrowly lost to G2 in overtime in groups. This was their chance to come back into the series.

Instead, G2 continued to look on point. A Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa 4K in the pistol round got them off to a hot start on the T side. G2 took advantage and racked up some early rounds. Spirit had trouble stemming the bleeding. If not for a couple of mistakes out of G2, they would have been completely dominated.

We then saw a repeat of what happened on Mirage. Spirit was completely unable to get anything going on offense and got clean swept. They didn’t even have time to adjust. The 7-5 score turned into 13-5 before Spirit could blink. Just like that, G2 was one map from the BLAST Premier World Final trophy.

G2 Indomitable on the Day

Dust2 was G2’s second map choice, and one that they were intent to close out on. G2 won their fifth pistol round of the series and started up 6-0 on T side. Though NiKo was struggling, Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač was thriving. He would end the map with an insane 2.17 HLTV rating. Even in-game leader Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski was finding clutch moments. G2 simply showed up as a complete team today.

An 8-4 half was the most one-sided yet. G2 locked in their perfect six-for-six pistol round score and brought the match closer to completion. After a couple more highlight flicks from m0NESY’s AWP, G2 had map point.

13-7 was the final score, giving G2 the 3-0 clean sweep where they only allowed 19 total rounds. This was a straight shellacking. G2 has deservingly added the BLAST Premier World Final trophy to their case, their third this year. They now head into the Shanghai Major with momentum as frontrunners alongside NAVI and Team Vitality.
