It’s been a rough couple of months for the Team Falcons CS2 roster. All eyes were on them when s1mple returned to competitive play on loan from Navi back in September. But to say it didn’t work out would be something of an understatement. Now, Falcons has announced that 3 players have been benched and s1mple’s loan ended with immediate effect.

What happened to Falcons?
On paper, this should have been a really formidable roster. Not only did the GOAT of Counter-Strike come back for his first officials in CS2 for them but there were some big names accompanying him. Now, in a statement released on X, Falcons announced that they have benched Dupreeh, Snappi and maden.
Initially, I expected them to make a good run at the Thunderpick World Championship and I don’t think I was alone. The initial games from day one were the most watched of the whole tournament, bringing in almost a quarter of a million views. But that’s exactly where it ended when s1mple’s return fell flat and they were eliminated on day 1.
The same could be said for the ESL Challenger Katowice 2024, which saw them crash out in 7th-8th place. They had one last chance at redemption with the European RMR A for the Perfect World Shanghai Major. But it wasn’t to be. They crashed out of the RMR in 12th-14th place after losing to FaZe Clan, SAW and GamerLegion on the trot.
Up next for Falcons
At this point, only Magisk and coach Zonic are left standing of the Team Falcons roster. I wouldn’t be surprised if the decision to bench 3 and lose s1mple was dependent on the RMR performance and it only came into play once they failed to qualify for Shanghai.
According to their statement, this loss was extremely disappointing for the org and now they’ll be turning their attention to establishing a roster for 2025.

Objectively speaking, this puts Falcons in a tough position. Even if they’re able to put together a brilliant roster, it’s going to be some time before they can get the synergy to play well in S tier tournaments. I’m not necessarily saying they should have stuck with the existing roster, it’s clear that for one reason or another, it really wasn’t working. But there’s an uphill struggle ahead and it’ll be interesting to say who comes to the team next.
