Team Liquid, late into the night, took down Crown of the Cosmos, the 7th boss of nine in the Race to World First (RWF). Due to the unusual nature of Midnight’s Season 1’s RWF, Team Liquid are effectively on hold until March 31st, when the last two bosses are released.
Update: 28/3
To no real surprise, the two EU guilds both matched Liquid during the day. Echo managed to match Liquid fairly quickly, taking just 21 pulls, while Method matched a little later, taking 53 pulls. Now, all three guilds are farming Mythic+ to get as much gear as possible. As things stand, Echo and Method have a higher ilvl (gear score), though the margins are so tight that it will likely all come down to tactics next week.
The article below is as it was when published on March 27th, when Team Liquid secured 7/9
It’s a pretty unique scenario for the RWF, as Team Liquid are now done with the race until next week. With the final two bosses set to release and the race to officially end. This unique situation has now opened up a very strange timeline ahead of the final two bosses’ opening. What do Team Liquid actually do now?

Team Liquid will now do Mythic Splits, most likely ahead of the release of the final two bosses. Effectively getting as much gear as possible ahead of the final two bosses. The rest of the World, crucially, Echo and Method will now push to match Team Liquid today, giving them the best chance to then push Team Liquid for the final two.
The worry, of course, for other guilds will be that if the final two bosses are very easy, which is a real worry given how fast the race has gone so far. However, the final two bosses, and especially the final boss, can be very tough.
There is a real concern, however, that due to Blizzard removing WeakAuras (and an addon that could give you a lot of information about boss abilities), this raid is a little “easy” as a result. Just two days before the Crown of the Cosmos was killed, it was buffed to make it harder. At just 33 pulls and a jump of 17% to dead from one pull to the next, it looks like it needs a little more time in the oven.

For EU guilds, they will need to catch Team Liquid today in order to remain on the same footing. For viewers, there will be a lot of faith put in Blizzard that the final two bosses are tuned well, and we actually get a race. Because right now, it’s looking like it could be a poor start to Midnight.
As this article goes live, just two hours after Team Liquid took down Crown of the Cosmos, EU guilds have begun to pull Lightblinded Vanguard, which is the 6th boss. In fact, while we were about to hit publish, Echo took down the boss, moving them to boss 7. As for Method, they were at 6% and likely to kill the boss very shortly.
For EU guilds, if they can kill the Crown of the Cosmos in sub-30 pulls, given they have a clear kill strategy, the race will likely even up. Regardless, it will be fascinating to see what each of the three guilds does before the next two bosses release.
Split farming, Mythic+, or even taking some time to recharge. It’s likely, however, that the raid could be very short and that it might end very quickly next week.
