Cloud9 announced that the legendary AWPer, Tyler “skadoodle” Latham, is officially walking away from competitive CS:GO. He will leave the Cloud9 team after their new replacement arrives, however, nobody has announced who or when their fifth player will land.
Cloud9 has seen three of their players walk away from competitive CS:GO within the past two years. Before skadoodle decided to walk away fans saw their other favorites like Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert and Michael “shroud” Grzesiek. N0thing and shroud’s retirements were not as surprising as skadoodle’s since they were already on their way out, but still notable departures. Shroud has since made a bigger impact on the gaming community from his streaming career on Twitch and content creation.
Skadoodle was an important part in Cloud9’s CS:GO history as he helped push the North American region out of “memehood” and into a place where they were considered a threat. At ELEAGUE Boston Major, skadoodle was rewarded with the MVP award after they upset FaZe in the grand finals.
Skadoodle always worked hard to push away from the controversial iBuyPower banning. The iBP controversy saw the entire team receiving a lifetime ban directly from Valve due to the betting scandal. His teammates Braxton “swag” Pierce, Josh “steel” Nissan, Keven “AZK” Lariviere, and Sam “DaZeD” Marine were all banned, but skadoodle was spared. If he was to be banned with the rest of his iBP team, his legendary career never would have happened.
All eyes are on Cloud9 as fans and competitors wait to hear who will take over for skadoodle, which is a difficult position to replace.
