Hold on to your helmets, R6 fans! Ubisoft’s latest limited-time event, Rainbow Six Siege REDACTED, is about to get underway from March 25 to April 8. The mode brings a bit of a deliberate twist to the game’s tried-and-tested formula. For experienced players, this is less about learning something new and more about applying what you already know, but with less emphasis on running and gunning.
Coordination and map knowledge are the core of R6 Year 11, and this event pushes those skills to the limit by centring gameplay around pinpoint-precise infiltration and controlled execution. REDACTED introduces a 4v4 format. Attackers are tasked with infiltrating, securing sensitive data, and getting the hell out of there. Defenders, on the other hand, focus on denial, disruption, and countering any fancy tactics the attackers might come up with.
That probably sounds like a variation of Secure Area or Hostage, but the pacing and objectives make it different. It feels closer to a coordinated heist than a standard round. The name may be “REDACTED,” but the objective is very clear. Get in, secure the data, and get out, preferably in one piece.
The biggest difference is how heavily the mode leans on discipline. You are not just clearing rooms and holding angles. You are managing timing, positioning, and information flow across two distinct phases. Solo hero plays are still possible, but they are far less reliable than structured team execution.
So yes, your R6 ranked habits will help here. Your bad ones will also show up very quickly.
The event’s defining feature is its two-phase system, which splits each round into distinct tactical challenges.
The first phase revolves around hacking. Attackers need to gain access to the objective while defenders attempt to stall, deny entry, or burn time. This phase heavily favours teams that can coordinate utility usage and maintain map control without overextending. Solid Snake, the Operator around whom the event is based around, is great here.
Once the data is secured, the round shifts into the extraction phase. An attacker must carry the MO Disk to the extraction point, turning the focus from static control to dynamic movement.
Meanwhile, defenders transition from anchoring to active interception, forcing both teams to adapt quickly. For veteran players, this phase shift is where the mode stands out. It tests your ability to switch gears in the middle of the action, which is something rare in standard playlists. Matches follow a best-of-five structure, giving teams enough rounds to adjust strategies and punish cheese strats.

As expected, the event includes exclusive cosmetics tied to its theme, along with Twitch Drops for viewers. Players can earn items like the “Hydroponic” Vector .45 ACP skin by watching eligible streams, which can be equipped by Goyo and Mira.
For most seasoned players, the rewards are a bonus rather than the main draw. The real appeal lies in the gameplay shift and the chance to test coordinated play in a different structure.
REDACTED does not reinvent Siege, and it does not try to. Instead, it refines core elements and puts players under more pressure.
For long-time players, it is a reminder of what Siege looks like when everything clicks. Clean executes, well-timed rotations, and coordinated defence all matter here. Mistakes are punished quickly, and adaptation is key.
If nothing else, it is a mode where running in the blind is almost guaranteed to fail. Almost.
