What happens to the meta when you have to pay for heroes out of a limited bank balance? What happens when Tiny is too expensive to purchase for a draft? BETWAY Midas Mode 2.0 has developed its own meta. Though the base of the tournament is Dota 2, the extra elements shift team priorites to develop a Dota 2 meta unique to the event. And who better to tell us all about it than Kevin “Purge” Godec?
Hotspawn’s Gillian “Kendryx” Linscott had the opportunity to sit down with Purge at Midas Mode to talk about the emerging meta ahead of the Europe and Americas Grand Finals. You can watch the complete interview here:
Purge offers some great insight into how the pricing of heroes impacts the drafts. His advice for teams? Look at semi-expensive heroes that are core to the strategy initially, to set yourself up for the win. He also advises making small item build changes to enable completion of bounties to earn those Moonbucks!
The significance of Roshan has also changed with Midas Mode. Implementing the VR Roshan has meant a power upgrade to Rosh, and as Purge points out, left some teams uncertain about how strong the creature really is. Usual timings for Roshan do not apply any more.
One of the surprises of the tournament, for us and Purge, was the performance of OG. Many thought The International 2019-winners would stomp through the event, even with Anathan “ana” Pham playing from Australia. In the interview, Purge discusses how teams come to an event like Midas Mode with different expectations and ideas about how to have fun. OG embraced fan service and regardless of their results, we think the fans were entertained.
