Outlander Update feat. Void Spirit: Valve Announces New Hero

Chelsea Jack

During the break between game one and two of the Team Secret versus Team Liquid series, Valve gave us another exciting special announcement video. The crux of it? Another new hero, Void Spirit will be joining the game later this year.

A second new hero was announced at The International 2019: Void Spirit.

A short animatic featuring a man with a long lavender ponytail and beard introduced the character. He wields a double-sided spear, with bright purple energy crackling as the edge on each side.

During the broadcast, Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden speculated that he will be able to teleport. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a full video preview of the hero the way we did for Snapfire. Fans have theorized about a fourth spirit hero, to join Earth Spirit, Ember Spirit and Storm Spirit, for ages. The relationship between Void Spirit and Faceless Void should also be interesting to explore; hopefully, there are some interesting synergies between Void Spirit and the other three spirits and between Void Spirit and Faceless Void.

Void Spirit will arrive in the Outlanders Update alongside Snapfire. The update is expected for Fall 2019, so sometime after The International 2019 and the end of the year. In an exciting twist, the update will also impact Dota Underlords, Valve’s Dota 2-themed autobattler.
