In a shock announcement, British esports organization Into the Breach has confirmed it is winding down operations across all divisions after discovering “significant mismanagement within the organization.” Into the Breach previously fielded teams in Counter-Strike 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Halo, and Dota 2, although this will grind to a halt immediately. Perhaps the organization’s best moment came in Counter-Strike, when it reached the Quarter-Finals of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, in the ultimate underdog run.

In a statement released online, Into the Breach alleges that it “discovered that an individual entrusted with all financial and monetary decisions was embezzling funds for personal use,” leaving the organization with no choice but to “begin the process of winding down our operations.”

The statement does not name the individual in question. The mystery did not go unsolved for long, with Into the Breach CEO Sam Macedonio seemingly owning up to the whole thing. He claims that he “was acting as two people – one trying to match their [the teams’] efforts and another a destructive, alcoholic narcissist hellbent on self-immolation.” He claims that the organization became “a house of cards repeatedly knocked down and then rebuilt hastily in the wake of my actions,” and Into the Breach “still managed to achieve a lot despite sabotage, which just goes to show what could have been achieved without it.”

He also claims there will be “several legal consequences of this, all of which I’ll accept and face.” Any outstanding payments will be made “with what funds are available. This’ll be managed outside my influence.” In a follow-up tweet, Macedonio claims he “took around £600k in director’s loans,” before he “blew it all on benders and self-harm action.” From a professional point of view, it’s a sad state of affairs that will see many lose their jobs. But from a personal perspective, I’m in utter disbelief that he just… tweeted this all out?!
Naturally, some players under the ITB banner couldn’t resist giving their two cents on the situation. CS2 player smooya didn’t hold back in his assessment of the situation:

He would also accuse ex-managers of purchasing food deliveries and designer clothes “with the players’ money.” Former Into the Breach CS:GO IGL Thomas claimed that “you were trying to scam us from the start”, in response to Macedonio’s statement. It’s all very “esports,” isn’t it?
