One of the biggest updates in fighting games is coming soon, Guilty Gear Strive 2.0. The title may have been out for around five years already, but it’s getting an update that’s akin to a full sequel. From new characters coming to the game to major reworks. We’re expecting the change to re-work Strive from the ground up.
This is one of the most popular fighting games in the world. It has had a lifespan that most titles can only dream of too, with support for the game stretching on. New characters, new DLC seasons, but the biggest change is still coming soon with the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 update. This is what we’re expecting and when the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 release date will be:
2.0 is making big changes. It’s going to be a new update to the game, not a separate DLC or sequel in the Guilty Gear Series. While we’ve had 25 different GG games, Strive has had real staying power. Next, it’s getting a big rework for the base game. These are some of the changes we’ve seen shown off at the Arc World Tour trailer:

That’s the highlights. It’s a lot bigger than the standard updates we’ve seen added to the game. It’s even going to be bigger than when we get new DLC characters too. These are some of the larger updates we’re expecting with Guilty Gear Strive 2.0.
One of the most exciting parts of the update will be new characters. Jam is coming next and Robo-Kt has been announced too. This will greatly expand the options for Guilty Gear Strive 2.0. It’s already a huge roster of fighters, beating out the characters list for SF 6 too. But with update will make the game huge after the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 release date.
The full update is going to expand out the roster gradually. There’s an insane number of DLC characters in the game now and this will continue for a while longer. There’s been speculation about the end of DLC a few times now. But with the game holding everyone’s interest, it’s still worth supporting with new characters. It doesn’t look like Guilty Gear Strive is going to stop anytime soon.

The game’s balancing update is going to make big alterations to most of the game after the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 release date. The Wild Assault mechanic is getting removed. Counter Blitz will be brought in to replace it. It’s a move which uses half of the Burst Meter from a Counter Hit. There will be other new moves added for some characters like Leo and Sol too.
This will mean most characters will play differently. Like Ky getting a new follow up attack. It’ll mean even if you’ve been playing since the game’s earliest days, you’ll need to refresh things. The game is going to play different for everyone, from new moves to match ups changing significantly.

Another new feature coming in Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 will be a Battle Pass. This system has long been used by live service titles, however it will come to GGS now. It’s not the first fighter to get one, we’ve seen them in other recent games like Street Fighter 6 too.
This will be a seasonal Battle Pass. A free tier with some items, then a cheap premium tier too to unlock more.

The Battle Pass is going to have things like badges and digital items along with items. A big expansion for things you can unlock, but premium passes aren’t always for everyone. Most players can probably freely skip it unless they want to get everything.

That’s what we’re expecting with the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 update, but when will it actually release? it’s coming up soon. We have a clear idea of when the Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 release date is going to be.
The new update will release on April 9th! That’s when most of the content is coming. Although, some elements are being saved for later. the new characters won’t be all dropping at once. They have a gradual timetable just like the normal DLC in Guilty Gear Strive 2.0.
