Amazon’s Prime Video will premiere the five-part documentary series Esports World Cup: Level Up, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler.

The series, produced by This Machine (a part of Sony Pictures Television), will go over the defining moments of the inaugural 2024 Esports World Cup (EWC), which saw 200 teams and over 1,500 players from around the world compete for the $60 million prize pool across 22 competitions.
Prime Video will be releasing the first episode of five on June 6, with new episodes released weekly, and right before the start of this year’s Esports World Cup, which starts on July 7, according to the official EWC schedule.
The documentary series will follow a wide cast of characters – from esports teams’ CEOs to the top esports talents. According to a release, the series will showcase gamers such as Team Falcons’ Soka, League of Legends’ Faker, Team Liquid’s Sanford, Atlanta FaZe’s Drazah, and Team Vitality’s Chel & Cinny. Additionally, NAVI CEO Yevhen Zolotarov and Team Falcons’ CEO Mossad Aldossary took part in the filming.
“A win might make the headlines — but the real story is the people behind it,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation. “Level Up dives into the human side of esports: the pressure, the ambition, the sacrifices. It’s about what it really takes to compete at the highest level — and why it matters. R.J. is the best at bringing those stories to life, and this one captures the heart of what we’re building.”
This Machine was founded in 2020, headed by award-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler. The production company has worked on several projects published on streaming platforms, including Netflix and Prime Video.
“What drew me to the Esports World Cup was the compelling human stories unfolding within this high-stakes arena,” said Cutler. “Level Up isn’t just about the incredible competition and prize money; it’s about the dedication, the passion, and the sheer will of these athletes and teams pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Under high pressure, we discover the true character of the competitors who vie for $60 million, but who also expose their humanity in the process.”
