Call of Duty is one of the most popular and prolific game series in history. The first Call of Duty game was released on October 28, 2003 and featured players taking the trenches of World War II. CoD initially separated itself from other WWII FPS games by giving players control of several characters on various sides of the conflict and by pairing up the player with AI-controlled teammates. This gave the player a sense of just how large a scale the war was, as opposed to several other games previously in the genre. Over time, Call of Duty would span across WWII, the Cold War and even the future. Though the core elements of the game remained, every game in the series added a new flavor. Some of the biggest additions would be online multiplayer - a core component to CoD esports, Zombies and Warzone. Warzone itself may have been the biggest addition to the franchise in years. With the explosion of battle royale games in popularity on Twitch, CoD released their own version called Warzone. Of course, Warzone shares the same basic elements as all BR games.
