The Autobattler or Auto Chess genre is a relatively new one. At their core, Autobattler games are strategy games that rely on shrewd economic decisions and proper planning. Autobattlers feature a grid-based bored, with players being able to place one unit on each spot on their half of the grid. Players use currency to buy units to place on these tiles, with the goal of building the strongest team and being the last player standing. Though the lineage of what would become autobattlers stems further back, the first major success was Dota Auto Chess, a mod for Dota 2. Ultimately, this lead to the growth of the scene and the creation of Teamfight Tactics, Dota Underlords, Battlegrounds and more.
