MPL ID S17 Week 2 delivered early clarity in what’s shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable splits in the history of MPL ID and MLBB esports. While several contenders are still finding their footing, one storyline has already taken center stage: Team Liquid ID’s rookie-powered surge to the top.

After two weeks of play, Team Liquid ID sit alone at the top of the standings with a flawless 4-0 match record, a run that has quickly turned heads across the region.
Coming into Season 17, expectations for Team Liquid ID were close to nothing as they’ve shown disappointing results last season finishing last in the league. The organization, which famously lifted the MPL ID trophy in Season 14, once again leaned into developing fresh talent—echoing the same formula that fueled their earlier success.
So far, that gamble looks like it paid off. Their MPL ID S17 Week 2 campaign featured statement wins. Including a tight 2-1 series against one of the frontrunners, Dewa United, and a convincing sweep over RRQ Hoshi. They were composed, confident performances from a roster that, on paper, lacks the veteran firepower of traditional title favorites.
What stands out most is how quickly the new pieces have clicked. The synergy between veterans like Aran and their rookie Mid Laner Drichel and Roamer Lyoni from their Academy team has enabled decisive early-game control. It’s a system that feels familiar.
It’s similar to their form in Season 14. It’s reminiscent of their Season 14 run, where rising talent outperformed expectations en route to a championship. But, they have yet to face the undefeated ONIC.

Close behind Team Liquid ID is ONIC Esports, who also remain undefeated at 3-0. While their record is spotless after both Week 1 and this week. But MPL ID S17 Week 2 showed that they aren’t entirely untouchable.
ONIC continue to rely on their trademark macro-heavy playstyle—clean rotations, disciplined objective control, and sharp teamfight execution. But unlike Week 1, one of their games during the series against Geek Fam tested them.
The game was dead even up until the end but hero plays coming from the Gold Standard Kelra, propelled them to win the first game. Kelra stays at an amazing KDA Average of 36.00 after playing 6 games.
ONIC remain firmly in the title conversation in MPL ID S17 Week 2. Alongside new bloods in the form of Team Liquid ID.
Dewa United’s 2-1 record keeps them firmly in the upper half of the standings for MLBB ID team. Even after their loss to Team Liquid ID. They are still in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage, given that it is still the 2nd week of MPL ID S17.
Alter Ego, meanwhile, sit at 2-2 after MPL ID S17 Week 2. They continue to be one of the hardest teams to read. After a rough 0-2 run during their 1st week, the M7 Grand Finalists bounced back heavily by defeating NAVI and EVOS, both 2-1 as the score.
Alter Ego may still be finding their footing, but when the time matters the most, they can easily defeat the strongest teams in any region.
Bigetron by Vitality and EVOS find themselves in the messy middle of the standings, where every series feels pivotal. Bigetron’s 2-2 record reflects a team still searching for identity.
While EVOS and NAVI, on the other hand, sit at 1-3 and are already under pressure to turn things around. Despite flashes of individual brilliance, their coordination hasn’t quite come together. Something they’ll need to fix quickly if they want to stay in playoff contention, especially having a new roster for the season.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the season so far is RRQ Hoshi’s 0-3 start. A team synonymous with dominance in MPL Indonesia, RRQ now find themselves at the bottom of the standings after two weeks. Their loss to Team Liquid ID in Week 2 highlighted deeper issues; draft struggles, lack of cohesion, and an inability to close out games.
There’s still plenty of time to recover, but the margin for error is already shrinking.
Two weeks in, MPL Indonesia Season 17 is already telling a compelling story: the contention of the new bloods.
Team Liquid ID’s rookie-driven success isn’t just a feel-good narrative in MPL ID S17 Week 2. It’s a potential shift in the region’s power dynamics especially in the meta of MLBB right now. While established giants like ONIC remain dangerous, the gap between veterans and newcomers is clearly closing.
For now, all eyes are on Team Liquid ID. Whether they can maintain their perfect run remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: they’ve already exceeded expectations, and they’re doing it with a roster no one saw coming, much similar to their S14 run.
If history is any indication, counting them out might just be the biggest mistake of all.
