What’s happened in MPL ID S17 Week 1? There’s been some exciting matches to open things up.

The regular season of MPL ID S17 officially kicked off on March 27, featuring a double round-robin format where every match carries weight in the race for a Top 6 playoff spot. From the very first series, it was clear that teams came prepared, adapting quickly to the evolving map mechanics introduced this season.
But while several teams made statements, one stood above the rest. This is what happened accross our first week.
ONIC entered Season 17 with expectations as one of the region’s dominating powerhouses, and they delivered immediately. Undefeated in their opening matches, ONIC showcased clean macro, disciplined teamfighting, and signature confidence. Having an attempt for their 3peat championship, and 7th title, ONIC has once again bolstered their roster with the Gold Standard, Kelra from ONIC Philippines.
Making his highly anticipated debut in MPL Indonesia, Kelra wasted no time proving why he’s considered one of the most mechanically gifted gold laners in the scene.
Across multiple games, he displayed near-flawless positioning by outplaying their opponents, clutch decision-making on when to go in and out, and a level of aggression that consistently punished opponents.
Whether it was dominating lane matchups or carrying late-game teamfights, Kelra looked completely at home. His synergy with ONIC’s core lineup clicked instantly, turning what could have been a transition period into an immediate power spike.
If MPL ID S17 Week 1 is any indication, ONIC didn’t just maintain their strength—they may have leveled up.

While ONIC grabbed headlines in MPL ID S17 Week 1, some previous low ranking teams showed up after their roster change.
Team Liquid came into the season with something to prove, and their Week 1 performance reflected just that. Their matches were marked by surprising aggression and improved coordination, suggesting a more refined identity compared to their previous disappointing run last season.
While not as dominant as ONIC, they remain firmly in the conversation as a top-tier threat.
Navi also showed signs of resurgence. Though not flawless, their gameplay demonstrated better structure, especially in objective control and mid-game transitions, especially after acquiring the renowned coach of the Philippines, Coach Ynot.
If they maintain this trajectory, they could easily contend for a top playoff seed in MPL ID S17 Week 1.
MPL ID S17 Week 1 also highlighted how tight the competition is in the middle of the standings. The MPL IS S17 power rankings are tight this year.
Teams like Dewa United Esports, Bigetron by Vitality and EVOS all showed flashes of brilliance, but inconsistency continues to hold them back.
Several series went the distance, with teams trading wins and struggling to close out cleanly. This volatility could define the regular season, where even a single match win can heavily impact playoff qualification due to the one-point-per-win system.
If these squads can clean up their execution, the middle of the table could become the most unpredictable battleground in MPL ID.
Meanwhile in the bottom half of the standings, Geek Fam ID, RRQ Hoshi, and Alter Ego have yet to deliver a solid performance. These three organizations have always been a conversation at the top side of the standings but are now reversed with their MPL ID S17 week 1.
They have still yet to score a match point in the following week, which they must immediately start in order to at least be safe and qualify for the Knockout Stage.

While it’s still early days, initial standings already reflect ONIC’s strong start, as they sit at the top following a perfect opening week. That said, MPL Indonesia is notorious for dramatic shifts. A dominant MPL ID S17 Week 1 doesn’t guarantee long-term control, especially in a format where teams face each other twice.
Let’s all witness if the addition of their new legendary player, Gold Laner, Kelra, can continue this domination similar to when ONIC added Kairi as their Jungler.
Season 17 continues with the dynamic map changes, ranging from expanded rivers to altered terrain, which are already influencing how teams approach the game.
The MPL ID meta have also yet to be determined as the season for MLBB and the pro scene has just begun. Teams that adjust quickest to these variables will likely gain a significant edge as the season progresses.
If Week 1 proved anything, it’s that MPL Indonesia Season 17 is wide open, but with a clear frontrunner.
ONIC look unstoppable right now, and with Kelra already performing at an elite level, they’ve set the bar incredibly high. The question now is whether the rest of the league can catch up—or if ONIC will continue to widen the gap.
And at the center of it all for now, is none other than Kelra, making his presence felt in a brand-new region.
