The next League of Legends champion is Zaahen, a Darkin champion, which is expected to be released sometime during the last part of 2025 in Season 3. This is what we know so far.
The newest LoL champion is not supposed to be human but has a body made of Petricite, a magical material produced in Demacia. While it’s still unclear what the champion would look like, the weapon used by Zaahen is expected to resemble the glaive wielded by Atakhan, maintaining consistency with the Darkin origins. Zaahen will be the fifth Darkin champion after Aatrox, Varus, Kayn’s Rhaast form, and Naafiri.
According to the latest leaks from BigBadBear, Zaahen’s kit matches a fighter-like playstyle based on lifesteal and sustain. His passive allows him to stack auto attacks, gaining lifesteal and a revive effect after reaching a specific threshold. The Q is an empowered auto attack that applies crowd control, although the type of CC is yet to be determined.
His W is a pull ability, similar to Darius’ grab, which can be applied to multiple opponents. Additionally, the ability also grants Zaahen additional lifesteal. His E, on the other hand, is similar to Aatrox’s: a short dash that, however, deals AoE damage around him and slows enemies.
Despite BigBadBear’s leaks, there are still no details about Zaahen’s ultimate, which will likely determine not only his playstyle but also main role. Based on the three basic abilities, the champion can be either a top laner, a jungler, or a support. The last one, however, is less likely, given that he doesn’t have many effects that can be used efficiently in the bot lane 2v2 matchup.
Following Yunara‘s release to the game, there are currently 171 champions in League of Legends. With Zaahen confirmed to be the 172nd and coming before the end of the year, there will be a total of three new champions released in 2025 (Mel, Yunara, and Zaahen).
