The Only TFT Comps You’ll Need for Set 17 [Patch 17.2]

Best TFT comps for Set 17 in Patch 17.2

  • Dark Star Kai’Sa
  • Marauder Master Yi
  • Meeple Corki
  • Timebreaker Lulu
  • Psionic Conduit Viktor

The new TFT Set 17 hit the live servers April 15, with a whole new mechanic that replaces the old champion carousel, as well as the introduction of God Boons, which grant additional effects to your board. After the release, we have finally gotten a pretty good idea of how the meta is shaping up. Level 7 reroll comps seem to be the best way to get consistent top 4 placements, but to increase your chances of victory, you must try to hit those 4-cost 3★, or hit multiple 5-cost 2★. With that in mind, check out the best TFT comps for this patch, alongside some tips on how to maximize your board.

Dark Star Kai’Sa – The Strongest TFT Comp in Patch 17.2

This is the undisputed best TFT comp in Patch 17.2. People have finally caught up on how powerful the Dark Star units are once you hit 4 units, granting 45% extra AD/AP. If you happen to get a 2★ Dark Star unit early on, you can quickly snowball your econ with a good win streak.

Once you get Kai’Sa, you will have another spike, allowing you to stay healthy as you reroll at Level 7. To further strengthen your board, just go for Jhin to close out the 6 Dark Star and get the additional black holes to beef up your frontline. Be aware of scouts, however: this is a highly contested comp and is played in almost every lobby. Run this comp when you have Varus as a God as it should make your life easier to find Kai’Sa and Illaoi 3★.

Game plan:

  • Early on: play what you want but stay healthy, either by win streaking or lose streaking. Lissandra is the best item carrier for Kai’Sa’s items. You can use Ezreal/Pantheon/Milio to get free rerolls through the Timebreaker trait.
  • Once you hit level 7, slow roll to get both Kai’Sa and Illaoi. Beef up your frontline after you get Kai’sa BIS items. Use leftover items for either Jhin (AD) or Karma (AP).
  • If you hit level 9, place Morgana to reduce the damage taken.

Marauder Master Yi – The best late-game TFT comp

Marauder Master Yi is also another comp that’s picking up quite well lately and it seems to be performing well if you’re able to hit late Stage 5 or Stage 6. Compared to Dark Star Kai’Sa, it’s a bit harder to hit this comp since you need to reroll on Level 8. Luckily for you, it’s quite easy to stabilize with this comp, as long as you have the right items and you can at least find one copy of all the high-cost units. Positioning for this comp is the key for success: you want to avoid having your Master Yi die too quickly, so make sure to scout and place him on the enemy’s weak side.

Game plan:

  • Early game: You are free to play whatever allows you to survive early on. Primordian+Psionic is a good way to get through, as most of the units can be used as item holders (Bel’Veth & Briar for Master Yi and Fiora, Gragas for Tahm Kench).
  • Hit level 8 with a good econ, and then roll to find your high-cost units. Don’t hold too much gold for interest: the goal is to strengthen your board quickly and farm the econ back up with win streaks.
  • In the later stages of the game, either look for any 4-cost 3★, or use Morgana as the last unit.

Meeple Corki – The alternative Fast 8 TFT comp

If you happen to get a good opening for Corki’s BIS items, then you should go for this Meeple comp. With Nunu & Willump nerfed in this update, Rammus has overtaken him as the best 4-cost tank alongside The Mighty Mech. It’s a pretty easy comp to play and as long as you’re not heavily contested, you should get good results with it. The key is surviving through the early stages: find a way to build up your economy without dropping too much HP.

Game plan:

  • Early: prepare the items for Corki (Deathblade and Striker’s Flail priority) and use any comp early on. Do the same for the frontline items (prioritize Protector’s Vow, Gargoyle Stoneplate, and Sunfire’s Cape). You can either go for the Meeple comp or Timebreaker (with Ezreal/Pantheon/Milio)
  • Hit Level 8 with good economy and then roll for 2★ Rammus, Corki, and The Mighty Mech. Prioritize Riven last.
  • In the late stages of the game, look to 3★ any 4-cost champion or go for Bard.

Timebreaker Lulu – The situational Level 7 reroll TFT comp

With both Lulu and Maokai receiving buffs, a new team comp has started popping up in the meta. The Timebreaker Lulu comp is a bit situational since it’s heavily reliant on the effect Stargazer units get in the given lobby. Ideally, you want to go for this comp with either The Serpent or The Mountain effects. For the former, you will need two Stargazer emblems if you want to achieve the strongest board possible. With The Mountain, it’s much easier to get those effects, although you might lose a bit on total damage output. Since all units are low-cost, you can go for it whenever you have a reroll augment (Primastic Ticket).

Game plan:

  • Early game: Get your BIS items for Lulu & Maokai, followed by Jax and Milio. Use 3 Timebreaker (Ezreal/Pantheon/Milio) if you want to lose streak early on and get access to free rerolls. If you have The Mountain effect for Stargazer, get three units on the board as soon as possible to unlock additional emblems.
  • Reroll on Level 7 to find both 3★ Lulu & Maokai. Get one between Pantheon and Jax + Milio ideally. Don’t waste your entire economy, however.
  • If you have leftover gold and hit level 8, place more Stargazer units. If you have leftover AD items, put Xayah; otherwise, beef up your frontline and get Nunu & Willump.

Psionic Conduit Viktor – A consistent comp for top 4 placements

Psionic Viktor is slightly weaker compared to the previous patch but it’s still quite powerful, especially if you get the right items. The main issue for this comp is that you must beef up your frontline with both Rhaast and Illaoi, with the latter being a priority. Many meta comps require the Anima champion in their boards, so you must reroll quickly, or you’ll end up getting contested.

As the comp name suggests, your main carry is Viktor. You can use Lissandra as item carrier early on. This comp’s opener also allows you to transition to Dark Star Kai’Sa, potentially, depending on what Gods’ effects you’re getting or whether you have been contested.

Game plan:

  • Early game: play what you want, but ideally you want to have some of your units ready. The goal is to get good econ, so either win streak or lose streak on Stage 2. Get them to 2★ as soon as possible since they are often played in other comps and contested.
  • Reach level 7 with good economy: find 3★ Viktor as soon as possible. Prioritize Illaoi as main tank. If contested, however, switch to Rhaast. Nami is considered the secondary carry so use leftover items for her.
