The Fortnite Seven Storm is coming back again! This bizarre feature was in Fortnite leaks for quite while, as a feature for the new Chapter. But, surprisingly it then randomly came to the live game first. Dropping in the midst of the Simpsons mini season as a one-time thing, but now it’s back.
This whole Fortnite Seven storm is making an extremely unsubtle teaser for what’s coming to the game. Beyond showing off a little bit about what’s coming up next, the Fortnite Seven storm might be the start of a bigger process that’ll change one of Fortnite’s core elements.
The initial appearance of this storm happened once. Just in the middle of the week, with quite a bit of time to go before the season ended! Now it’s happened again. What’s going on with the Fortntie Seven Storm?
The Fortnite Seven Storm has made a few early appearances so far. It began a couple of days ago. A complete change to how the storm functions! But only for a brief period, which was easy to miss. All we really got was screenshots on social media about the storm turning into a different shape. It might be a feature we’ll see expanded in the coming weeks though. This is how it works:
As a little teaser, the storm in Fortnite has had a major change. For all Fortnite seasons since 2017, the storm has been circles. Every few minutes in-game, it gets gradually smaller. Until players are pushed together and fights happen. It’s been a thing that didn’t really change at all. We briefly got a tidal wave instead of the storm… but that only lasted about a week. Then the island was flooded and everything went back to normal.
There’s not been any other changes to the storm. It’s a factor that’s been pretty stationary across the years. Although, the storm hasn’t really worked well in the Simpsons mini season. The map is too small and there’s too many people. Most games it isn’t the same relevant force that it used to be, there isn’t enough space for teams to co-exist even without it pushing people together. However, we have been testing out something pretty different. A unique shape for the Storm.
This time, it’s been a seven.
No prizes for guessing just what it’s teasing. A big 7 being the form that the Storm takes lets everyone know Chapter 7 is coming. Plus, this Chapter seems to be using its numbering for something a little bigger. At times in Fortnite’s history, a seven has been part of Fortnite lore in a bigger way. The Seven in Fortnite were a very important faction for a while. They’ll apparently be coming back for the next Chapter, hence why everything has gone all 7.
Why the Fortnite seven storm has been such a weirdly on and off tease is a bit stranger. It isn’t clear why Epic has been randomly turning on the seven storm, and turning it back off. It’s been a fun week with these random teases popping up at various times.
The big thing behind the Fortnite seven storm is if this is the start of a new phase for the storm.
At this point, Fortnite is in Chapter 7. Between all the different Fortnite seasons and other Battle Royales coming and going, it doesn’t feel as fresh as it used to. Mixing with something as key to the entire genre as the storm might be what it needs. The Fortnite player count has been in decline lately outside of short-term events, so hopefully the change to the storm could change things up.

It doesn’t seem like it’s just sevens either. Leakers have shown off bizarre looking things like a Hatsune Miku storm! It seems the storm could be turning into some completely random shapes in the future. The Fortnite Seven Storm might just be the start!
How will it affect gameplay? It’s a bit more RNG than the storm. But the storm has always been a factor of RNG. We’ve seen teams that know how to make the most out of pulling storm using their luck with RNG to great effect in Fortnite esports lobbies. Adding a little extra RNG might effect stuff, but it’ll probably spice things up too.
Getting more unique storms that allow for different tactics could be a lot of fun. The storm might not need changing, but this could be a feature which helps to make Fortnite a lot more exciting.
