The next update is going to introduce Fortnite Blitz Royale, a brand-new mode with a unique angle. Fortnite is already pretty diverse in game modes, between BR, Reload, LTMs, and now we’re getting Blitz Royale. It’s a smaller take on the BR format. Fewer players, but also a completely different system for looting. It’s breaking out of our standard search chests, get loot, stay alive format.

Instead of medallions being one-of-a-kind items for the top Fortnite players in the lobby, everyone gets them. It’s a mode with a loot pool that seems focused on the unbalanced and chaotic. The more random aspects of Fortnite’s gameplay.
There’s an entire system in Blitz Royale to throw out the standard BR format, called Blitz Level. A new map. Along with some Blitz Royale rewards, so you have a reason to grind it out a bit. How exactly will Blitz Royale work?
The new update to Fortnite is going to introduce Blitz Royale as an LTM. This isn’t a permanent Battle Royale mode like Reload. Instead, it’ll be temporary. Players might see the format again if it works well though.
The biggest initial difference is in player size. BR is 100 players, Reload cuts it down to 40. Blitz Royale goes even further, for a smaller and faster paced game of 32 players. It’s bordering on the payer sizes of more normal shooters. Epic’s promoting it as perfect for mobile, but it’s coming to all modes.
Since it requires less looting seemingly, it might be a lower commitment Battle Royale. There’s respawns, and players don’t need to waste so much time getting set-up before they join the action.
The LTM is available in Solo or Squads. No Duos or Trios at the moment. Hopefully, that means Epic’s learnt about splitting players up too much, like has happened with recent LTMs.

Your Blitz level is the key new mechanic behind gameplay. Players all start at the same level. There’s a random medallion and weapon that players spawn in with. Completing certain objectives progresses your Blitz level. You need to eliminate opponents, or survive further into the game through storm circles. Kind of like the current BR season’s Hero level. Although, there’s no sprites to farm for the upgrades here.
As players level up, they’ll get extra items. That’s more medallions and powers as well as special golden chests. Even supply drops. These will be key to winning and getting your Blitz Royale rewards. Contents are going to change regularly though.

The new Fortnite Blitz Royale mode is only going to be here for a month. However, Epic’s got a full schedule of Fortnite updates planned for its run. Each week has something different going on. This is the schedule for Blitz Royale.
It’s currently planned to end on July 15th. However, Epic’s said it could come back in the future. Potentially with a different map, or features. It could end up a more permanent mode if it proves popular enough!
There’s plenty of competition in FN though. We’re not expecting Fortnite tournaments in this mode. Blitz Royale looks like a more casual mode so maybe there’s room for it. Other Royales like Reload currently cater to the more competitive players, with a stronger focus on core guns.
Fortnite Blitz Royale will have a bit of an incentive for players to check it out. You can collect both the Blitz Knight outfit, and a new Blitz Brella glider by jumping in over its initial release.
They’ll be unlockable in different ways. There’s one method to grind XP in Fortnite and another to just play good. These are your options:

The Blitz Knight skin is coming to the items hop later, but it’ll be a free Fortnite skin first. The Victory Brella on the other hand is earnable by winning. Unlike the normal Victory Royale one though, you need to win three times, not one. But since the games are a bit quicker that should achievable for most players!
