One feature of Fortnite has been here since the game first launched and it has had a major change this season. You can drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite now. The bus has always been the vehicle which brings everyone from spawn island over to the game itself, with a predetermined route. Starting now though, you can get selected to drive the Battle Bus instead.

This change is coming as part of a bigger Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 update today. It’s replacing a previous attempt to change up the game’s opening. Last season we got surfing, where players got to the island after a short cutscene at a predetermined part of the island. It wasn’t the most fun.

While a cool novelty the first time around, surfing got old quick. It basically tied players to just two spots on the outskirts of the map and nowhere else. However, this season’s big change is a bit more exciting. How can you drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite?

Yes. This season has added a new feature to the game where you can drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite. However, it’s a bit of a random feature.

In terms of Fortnite lore, the bus driver hasn’t had any changes. It’s just that one player takes over for some games now. After the bus got destroyed last season, that would have been a good time to bring this feature in. But we did get traditional bus starts to the game for the second half of C7 S1.

When you jump into a game, you won’t know exactly who is driving the Battle Bus. however, you can get selected to take over. This is a random feature and not something you can claim in every game. Since there’s 100 people, it’ll just be random.

Hopefully, after a few different matches you can get a turn though. It’s a bit different to the boss transformations since it isn’t claimed in-game, it’s just random. Unlike the best player racing there, the current mechanic is just chance. there’s no spot that’s on spawn island to sign up or anything.

Is there an advantage to choosing the bus route though? in the past these single player experiences have given that player a massive advantage. Like the Stick of Truth last season. However, this time it’s. a lot more limited. Even though you can drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite, there isn’t much of an advantage.

Is There Strategy to Bus Routes?

Ultimately, there’s only so many places a Battle Bus can go, even with a player driving them. It goes over the top of the island, and only really makes a difference depending on what the first or last drop is. It’ll be fun to choose a different route though. Even if the strategy behind choosing one is pretty limited. In very sweaty esports games, drop spots can be helpful. But in the vast majority of pubs it probably won’t make a difference.

If you want to drive the Battle Bus in Fortnite, you’ll just need to wait and see if you’re selected to drive that game! With enough games most people should get their chance before the Fortnite season ends in a few months.
