Fears of GamerLegion letting go of their Dota 2 squad after ESL One Birmingham 2026 were greatly exaggerated, it seems, as Daniel “Ghost” Chan was just announced today as the team’s new carry player.
The organization broke the news close to noon today via their official social media channels. He will in effect replace Luke “Yamsun” Wang, and more recently, Indji “Shad” Lub — the latter of whom joined the team on March 17th on a trial basis.
Ghost is probably the best carry player coming out of Southeast Asia in the modern Dota 2 era, depending on how you view John “Natsumi-” Vargas’ overall skill and talent level. He was easily one of the biggest reasons Nigma Galaxy was even semi-relevant last season, helping to lift the team to places where they didn’t belong alongside Syed “SumaiL” Hassan.

The aforementioned club would have completely drowned last year without those two, full stop. I mean, it’s already happening right now, seeing as how they placed last at ESL One Birmingham 2026 without them.
Thus, it stands to reason that this is a huge pickup for GamerLegion moving forward. Many of their fans dreaded the possibility that the org would cease operations in the Dota 2 scene as a result of them missing out on the playoffs at Birmingham (after coming so, so close), but this announcement proves that they are committed to making this roster work.
And by god, do they need to make it work. Being a professional Dota player in North America is already hard enough, as Quinn “Quinn” Callahan put it in my interview with him at BLAST Slam 4 in Singapore. This team has too much potential in it for them to get dropped just like that, especially considering that their hard work preparing for Birmingham was pretty much undone by the sudden arrival of Patch 7.41.

Moreover, they were playing with a temporary carry in Shad, who most recently played for the doomed pre-SEA era OG before GamerLegion. Now that they have a permanent carry once more, they can really lock in and get to work improving their play in order to make deeper runs at tier 1 tournaments.
They’ve already shown the capacity to get into the top 8 at competitions like ESL One Birmingham and BLAST Slam 6 Malta, so acquiring Ghost might just be the push that they need to finally make it there.
