WESG Postpone APAC Finals Due to Virus Outbreak

Cody Luongo

World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) has opted to cancel its upcoming CS:GO Asia-Pacific Finals in the wake of a coronavirus outbreak affecting China, the company has announced.

In accordance with Chinese health official’s warning to limit travel, WESG officials made the executive decision to call off the 16-team tournament.

“In order to reduce unnecessary personnel flow, we decided to cancel the fourth WESG Asia-Pacific Finals originally scheduled to be held in Macau in February,” event officials reported on Wednesday.

At the time of writing, the Wuhan coronavirus has killed 17 people and infected over 547, primarily in mainland China.

The APAC Finals were originally scheduled for January 3rd – 5th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was later moved to February 16th – 18th in Macau after its local event organizer failed to secure the necessary resources in time for the tournament.

WESG has yet to release any additional information around prospective dates or locations for the tournament. More details are expected to be released following this week’s Lunar New Year celebrations.

Those team set to compete in the WESG APAC Finals are:
