Flashpoint Postpone Matches, Transition To Online Play
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive league Flashpoint has announced it will delay scheduled matches and transition to online play for the remainder of Flashpoint 1.
Debuting this past weekend with twelve teams, Flashpoint was one of the few live sporting events left standing amid the wake of destruction left by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. The tournament had previously relocated on March 6 to host its opening event from the privacy of FACEIT’s Los Angeles studio, limited to just players and staff.
After completing its first weekend of play, the organizer announced on Twitter it would postpone the upcoming matches set to commence tomorrow so teams could transition to “playing online from the safety of their homes.” The statement read:
“We are working diligently to ensure each team’s home site is suitable to maintain our standards for competitive integrity, and expect to communicate our updated schedule to the public as soon as we have clarity on the timeline of teams being set up and ready to compete remotely.”
The newly-launched league was off to a fantastic start, having provided the entertaining, unconventional and narrative-driven take on CS:GO it promised at the beginning. Although, the timing couldn’t have been worse for a league still trying to fully grow its legs from underneath it.
More updates are said to come soon regarding the schedule of Flashpoint 1, which was initially said to last until April 19.
