DreamHack Open Summer Events Revealed
Event organizer DreamHack has detailed plans around its DreamHack Open event series through the summer season. The tournament series will feature regional events in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, with a combined prize pool of $300,000.
In May, DreamHack announced its decision to postpone multiple events in 2020, and move a number of them online due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The events, DreamHack Open Summer Europe, DreamHack Open Summer North America, and DreamHack Open Asia and Oceania, which we were revealed today, will have both its players and talent participating from home. Each regional event will divide the tournaments into two stages, with a $100,000 cash purse for Europe and North America, and $50,000 in prize winnings for both Asia and Oceania.
At the time of writing, it’s unclear which teams DreamHack will choose to invite to any of the Open events, but ensures more information will be provided in the coming weeks. The following information was provided by the event organizer regarding the events:
DreamHack Open Summer Europe – Stage 2
July 2 – 5
DreamHack Open Summer North America – Stage 2
August 13 – 16
After the open qualifiers have concluded, four invited teams, which shall include ESL National Champions from Italy and France, will join four of the qualifying teams in Stage 1 to play for $10,000 and two slots into the second stage. A total of $90,000 will be up for grabs in both Europe and North America for Stage 2 of the tournament.
The Asia and Oceania events will feature a similar format, with the exception of its invited ESL National Champions coming from India and Australia. The first stage will offer the same $10,000 prize pool while Stage 2 will feature a $40,000 prize pool for both regional competitors to play for.
