New CS2 update sets an unfortunate record for Valve

As we’re pretty much all aware, the new CS2 update recently removed Anubis from the Active Duty map pool. It was a fairly shocking change; although it’s no secret the map has been too T-sided for a while now, I didn’t actually expect Valve to remove it.

New CS2 update sets an unfortunate record for Valve

However, in removing Anubis, Valve has inadvertently set an unfortunate record. At 972 days between its addition and its removal in the new CS2 update, Anubis is officially the map with the lowest amount of time spent in Active Duty over the last decade, with most others spending considerably longer before being rotated out. In fact, only two (Nuke and Train) have had a shorter Active Duty stint throughout the entirety of CS:GO and CS2, although both of them were well over a decade ago, when CS:GO was just starting to get onto its feet.

You can check out the full CS:GO and CS2 map pool history below to see how Anubis compares.

  • Mirage – 4,427 days (06/06/2013 to present)
  • Overpass – 3,782 days (18/12/2013 to 25/04/2024)
  • Inferno – 3,089 days (03/02/2017 to present)
  • Nuke – 3,075 days (17/02/2016 to present)
  • Train – 2,338 days (10/12/2014 to 04/05/2021)
  • Vertigo – 2,121 days (19/03/2019 to 06/01/2025)
  • Cache – 2,008 days (19/09/2013 to 19/03/2019)
  • Dust2 – 1,673 days (20/04/2018 to 18/11/2022)
  • Dust2 – 1,628 days (21/08/2012 to 03/02/2017)
  • Cobblestone – 1,586 days (18/12/2013 to 21/04/2018)
  • Ancient – 1,539 days (05/03/2021 to present)
  • Inferno – 1,276 days (21/08/2012 to 17/02/2016)
  • Anubis – 972 days (18/11/2022 to 16/07/2025)
  • Nuke – 842 days (21/08/2012 to 10/12/2014)
  • Dust2 – 451 days (25/04/2024 to present)
  • Train – 395 days (21/08/2012 to 19/09/2013)
  • Train – 195 days (06/01/2025 to present)
  • Overpass – 3 days (16/07/2025 to present)

In the current map pool, there are three maps with the potential to beat Anubis’ unfortunate record. Dust2 feels unlikely, given its ongoing popularity. However, the new version of Train isn’t played often by the community, so there’s definitely potential for that stint to be cut short well before it passes Anubis’ 972 days. Then, there’s Overpass, which I don’t see going anywhere anytime soon for obvious reasons.

It’s assumed the Anubis will be back in the future, albeit with some important changes to make it feel less T-sided. When it does return, let’s hope it can improve on its most recent 972-day stay.
