Imperial Valkyries is a name that, at the dawn of 2025, ensured it was on the tip of every Counter-Strike viewer’s tongue. Call it a flaw, call it a stroke of luck, but the reality was that Imperial Valkyries had found themselves thrown into the ring with the tier-one pros.

Their first outing against NAVI was quite the statement start. Imperial Valkyries did lose the game, but throughout the series, they proved they weren’t just here to make up the numbers. The 7 and 8 rounds they scraped together on the two maps split the crowd down the middle, some called it an online fluke, while others were dead set on the idea that they had skin in the game.
Imperial Valkyries then tore through the Tradeit League FE Masters Season 6, making light work of the Female teams without breaking a sweat. Everyone was waiting to see more of them, and IEM Katowice Play-in presented itself as their next trial. Having already taken a top-5 team like NAVI to the brink, the only question was – where did they truly stand? Could they go toe-to-toe with tier-two teams? Many, myself included, thought they had a fighting chance.
But before the match could even begin, disaster struck. Tory, the team’s captain, found herself stuck between a rock and a hard place, unable to participate due to VISA restrictions. This left their coach, bubble, who hadn’t played an official match in a hot minute, forced to step in and hold the fort.
Even with the deck stacked against them, Imperial Valkyries put on another nail-biter, clawing their way back from a 3-11 deficit to force overtime. A comeback of that magnitude is already a mountain to climb, but for a female team, and that too without their IGL, Valkyries were making sure their fans were entertained. While the second map was an outright disaster, managing only a single round on Dust2, they still walked away with some silver linings.

Their second match of the tournament was an absolute train wreck. Imperial Valkyries looked flat, getting single-digited out of the competition by BIG. This handed non-believers all the ammo they needed to claim Imperial Valkyries were out of their depth. But for the faithful, the belief that Tory’s return could be the turning point still kept the heart beating.
But these losses were not to be ignored. They were having the repercussions, and Valkyries were losing footing. With each passing tournament, Imperial Valkyries were bleeding points. They didn’t have many chances to begin with, and PGL Napoca 2025 turned out to be their last roll of the dice. In the Swiss format, they had three shots at redemption against Eternal Fire, MIBR, and Complexity, but they walked away empty-handed.

First up was Eternal Fire, which was a top-5 team in red-hot form, making the single-digit losses endurable. But then came the straight loss against MIBR, where they managed a measly 7 rounds combined across both maps. Imperial Valkyries were already walking a tightrope, and they were running out of it fast. Against Complexity in the elimination match, nothing changed. A loss and just seven round wins to show for it, the Valkyries had run out of all excuses.
The team tumbled out of Valve’s ranking system, leaving them out in the cold for future invitations. A month later, very recently, they had another crack at a male team, facing ECSTATIC at Galaxy Battle 2025 STARTER. But their win tally still sat at a big, fat zero. It now feels like Imperial Valkyries are cast aside and are slowly fading into the background, but there is still hope.
Now, once again, Imperial Valkyries are gearing up for yet another warfare. In the YaLLa Compass Qatar 2025 Closed Qualifier, that starts today, they’ll be stepping into the ring against a plethora of tier-two teams. Their schedule is already set – 9 Pandas, Complexity, Passion UA, Metizport, and Nemiga. Despite all of them being Bo1s, this is their golden opportunity to break the curse and finally secure a map win. Here is the full schedule :

And if I’m not being too hard on them, maybe this was always the path they were meant to take. Maybe that so-called VRS flaw was a wake up call, their ticket into the limelight, but their road to success was always going to be a long grind through the tier-two trenches. If I still count myself among their believers, and I do, I could justify their struggles at Cluj Napoca as pressure getting the best of them. But this? This is their make-or-break moment, and they won’t get another shot like this anytime soon.
