So the Counter-Strike gods have smiled upon us and given us a chance to witness two very ebullient matchups at IEM Katowice 2025. Remember how ropz and NiKo left FaZe and G2 respectively in two of the biggest roster moves ahead of the season? Well they are both going to face their former teams in two back-to-back showdowns today.
While you can bet your last skin these face-offs will have fans agog with excitement, but before we get caught up in the spectacle, let’s break down who holds the edge: has the edge over the another:
The 27 year old rifler has been known for his bloodcurdling aim but he also has a well-earned reputation of crushing his former teams. When he came to FaZe, he demolished his former team MOUZ, and when he joined G2, he tormented FaZe more often than not. Today, he’ll face G2 and we can expect nothing less than a tour de force performance from NiKo, which is always a sight for sore eyes.

But let us not get ahead of ourselves, G2 has shown signs of life and is the stronger side on paper, while Falcons are still finding their footing, with only a single win to their name. G2’s new addition HeavyGod is already looking sharp, huNter looks to have found his self again, and they have got their engines rolling already at the season outset. I well and truly believe that if G2 are manage to cage the beast of NiKo, he might just get a taste of regret for leaving his old squad behind.
Watching FaZe’s Shanghai documentary yesterday nearly had me in tears, and now you are telling me I have to witness ropz go head-to-head with karrigan today? The Robin will play on the opposite team as batman? Life is cruel.
And for a FaZe fan like me, the bitter pill is that Vitality is simply a better team than FaZe right now. On paper, this should end in a crushing defeat for the master. But I would be remiss to dismiss FaZe after watching that documentary and after they signed EliGe. Wasn’t Vitality better than FaZe in the quarterfinal? Wasn’t G2 the stronger team in the semifinal? And yet, who won? The same team I predict will emerge victorious today – FaZe.

There’s always a bit of magic and a little extra spice when matchups like these happen, especially when they feature players with the cultural impact of ropz and NiKo. The stakes are going to be high for all the teams, not only because IEM Katowice is one of the most prestigious tournaments, but also because all four of these rosters in questions are fresh and are looking to set the tone for the season early. Well anyway, these were my predictions, don’t miss the action, the games start shortly!
