After recent confirmation via leaked Cologne rosters that G2 has brought in MATYS replace Snax with huNter- taking up the IGL mantle permanently, the most recent set of CS2 roster moves finally seems to be complete at the top level. The IEM Cologne 2025 rosters are locked in, and July 26th now looks like a very exciting day to be a Counter-Strike esports fan.

CS2 fans suddenly need to mark July 26th on their calendars

Recent CS2 roster shuffle makes IEM Cologne 2025 Group Stage a must-watch

IEM Cologne is always one of the biggest events in the Counter-Strike calendar, needing no introduction. The LANXESS Arena has earned the affectionate nickname, “the Cathedral of Counter-Strike,” and has consistently produced some of the most exciting matches ever over the last few years. But this year, there’s a new flavor to IEM Cologne 2025 that gives it some extra spice.

After Vitality’s dominance last season, most of the teams at the top have decided that changes are necessary to compete on the same level. Falcons and Spirit are betting on youth with kyousuke and zweih, respectively. NAVI have promoted from within, with makazze replacing jL. G2 are looking exciting after picking up SunPayus and MATYS. All of these teams will be making their debut on July 26th: the IEM Cologne Group Stage. Save the date – it’s going to be a must-watch for all CS2 fans.

Technically, IEM Cologne 2025 starts on July 23rd with a 16-team Play-in, and there will be a few exciting roster debuts of note there. GamerLegion, Virtus.pro, and NIP are the highlights, but realistically, it pales in comparison to what we’ll be treated to later in the Group Stage.

So, it’s July 26th, and you’re tuned in to the ESL stream to watch IEM Cologne 2025. Which new CS2 rosters should you be watching? If you can only pick one, make sure to watch Falcons. Most would agree that kyousuke is one of the most exciting CS2 talents we’ve seen in a very long time, and has joined arguably the second-best team in the world despite having never played a Tier 1 match. If that’s a leap of faith worth watching, I don’t know what is.

Though if you can choose a second team to follow, go with G2. There are a few factors that will make them so interesting to watch. Dropping hades and Snax for SunPayus and MATYS is a huge firepower upgrade, and should help alleviate some of their biggest problems. However, I’m tuning in to see how huNter- fares in that new IGL role. It feels like a natural next step in his storied career, and it could be the move that catapults G2 back to the big time in the process. It all starts with the IEM Cologne Group Stage on July 26th.
