The new Atlanta Overwatch League team has officially been named. The Atlanta Reign, who is owned by Atlanta Esports Ventures, revealed their name, logo and team colors Monday.
The Atlanta Reign become the first of the eight expansion teams to announce their name, logo and colors.
“We are excited to finally unveil the Atlanta Reign,” said Paul Hamilton, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlanta Esports Venture in a statement. “We said from the beginning that we are building to compete. We chose a name that reflects that intention. We want to engage directly with Atlanta’s passionate esports community and the city as a whole.”
The Reign’s logo – a rising phoenix – is inspired by the city’s seal. The logo itself fits well with the original 12 logos in the Overwatch League, keeping to the relatively simple, clean aesthetic. That being said, the team colors are somewhat similar to the current colors of the Shanghai Dragons – but I doubt that will be an issue.
“Above all, we are looking forward to seeing what this team can accomplish,” Hamilton said. “We are building a strong organization with a singular focus on winning long term.”
The Reign become the first of the eight expansion teams to announce their name, logo and colors. Announcements for the remaining seven – Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC and Paris – are expected in the near future.
The sophomore campaign of the Overwatch League kicks off on February 14, 2019.
